Technical Cooperation with the Global Project “Promotion of agricultural finance for agri-based enterprises in rural areas(AgFin)”: Implementation of country package Nigeria

Background:

Nigeria is a partner country of the BMZ initiative “One World No Hunger” (SEWoH) which supports agricultural development and food security in countries worldwide, with a focus on sub-Saharan Africa. Complementary to the SEWoH Green Innovation Centre for the Agriculture and Food Sector (GIAE) which has been running in Nigeria since 2015. The project “Promotion of agricultural finance for agri-based enterprises in rural areas” (AgFin) is the only GIZ-led project under SEWoH which supports both suppliers and clients of financial services in the agriculture sector

Objective:

The main objective of the project is to improve the supply of farms and agri-based enterprises in selected regions of Nigeria with financial services adapted to their business models

The direct target group of the project are farms and agri-based enterprises mainly in the selected VCs of the GV GIAE (rice, maize, cassava and potato) and in the VCs of the two regional projects CARI and SSAB (rice and cocoa), which have access to technical advice and markets for their agricultural products, but with little or no access to adapted financial services. Actors that perform other important functions in the agricultural VCs, such as agro input dealers, and marketing and processing companies play an important role as well

The supply of farms and agri-based enterprises in selected regions of Nigeria with financial services adapted to their business models is improved.
