Technical Assistance to the Project for the Development of the Added Value of Agricultural Value chains (VAFA)

Background

The Burkina Faso's agricultural production remains poorly mechanized with low productivity. It has grown strongly in recent years, especially through the increase in cultivated areas, but without keeping pace with population growth. The VAFA project's objective is to contribute to increasing, diversifying and improving the quality of the supply of agroforestry products to meet the demand of the country's urban and rural centres as well as for exports, through the inclusive development of agricultural value chains, in order to improve productivity, and to enable an increase and better distribution of added value for the benefit of producers as well as an increase in income.

Overall objectives

Support the VAFA project in the planning and coordination of activities, in the implementation of the programme specifications, in the development of the knowledge base and monitoring of sectors and their actors, in the support for agricultural entrepreneurship and all regulations and control mechanisms concerning standards and food safety.

Specific objectives

Provide technical support in the two main areas of the VAFA project:

  • Overall coordination of the project; preparation and monitoring of the annual operational programmes (AOPs) of the entire project, results of the consolidation of the operational programmes of the three components of the VAFA project, namely: support for agri-food entrepreneurship, support for contract farming, institutional support
  • For the third component (institutional support): support for the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the corresponding programme specifications (support for the various programmed activities and support for their implementation)

Results:

  1. The VAFA project is implemented efficiently and in accordance with its financing agreement, in particular through good cooperation between the two delegated agencies of components C1 and C2 and through the harmonisation of procedures
  2. The regulatory, economic and technical environment of the sectors is improved and favourable to the development of agricultural value chains and agri-food entrepreneurship
