German-Colombian Training and Demonstration Project for Agroecology

The German-Colombian Training and Demonstration Project for Agroecology by BMEL will test and validate innovative agro-ecological approaches. The results and findings will contribute to the further development of the agricultural extension system in Colombia. The project also aims at strengthening the framework conditions and knowledge networks necessary for dissemination. Political partners are the BMEL and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Colombia (MADR). The operational project partner in Colombia is the Colombian agricultural research corporation AGROSAVIA

Project objective: Agroecological approaches with a high impact on food security and the socio-economic situation of marginalised and vulnerable groups as well as on climate and biodiversity protection are increasingly available.

The office location will be in Bogotá

Tasks of the expert

  • Supporting the team leader with content, methodology and in coordinating with partners
  • Providing specialist input and advice on the key topics, such as agroecology
  • In consultation with the team leader: managing activities, setting priorities, planning and supporting STE assignments
  • Organization of dialogue forums, content of project travels and other events (training, platform events, etc.)
  • Coordination with the Julius Kühn Institute and experts from AGROSAVIA
  • Coordination with other international partners (including other projects in Latin America)
  • Operationalization of the M&E system
  • Coordination of communication and documentation of project results (M&E)
  • Contacts and networking with partner structures in the country, research, the private sector and supra-regional actors
Qualifications: 

Necessary minimum requirements / exclusion criteria

  • Completed university degree
  • At least 5 years of professional experience
  • Very good knowledge of written and spoken Spanish
  • Good knowledge of English

Other qualifications / experience that will be considered favourably in the assessment (an advantage)

Specialised background

  • Degree in agricultural sciences or other relevant degree programmes
  • Knowledge of organic farming and/or agroecology
  • Knowledge of structures and methods of international (scientific) cooperation
  • Experience in the planning and implementation of cultivation trials and the development of derived advisory products in the agricultural sector
  • Knowledge of socially and ecologically relevant issues and the topic of gender equality
  • Practical experience in working with many different stakeholders - networking (cooperation with government agencies, academia, the private sector, advisory systems)

Regional expertise and language skills

  • Professional experience in Colombia or another Latin American country
  • Knowledge of Portuguese, very good knowledge of English, knowledge of German

Methodological competence

  • Communication and negotiation skills
  • Experience in the organisation of training measures, field days, etc.
  • Knowledge of M&E systems
  • Intercultural competence
Start / Duration: 

From 02/2024 to 12/2026 with option to extend by 24 months to 12/2028
