Development of animal husbandry and plant health and strengthening of the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Committee and the Plant Quarantine and Protection Agency

The aim of the current project "Support for economic reforms and sustainable economic development in Uzbekistan" is to create sustainable employment and better income opportunities as part of sustainable economic development. It contributes to the implementation of economic reform measures in the sectors of agriculture, agro-business and tourism. It promotes inclusive growth and sustainable economic development with a focus on rural regions and, through its implementation orientation, makes a direct contribution to the creation of employment and income opportunities.

Module Objective: In the framework of implementation of economic reforms, local economic development is strengthened in regions of Uzbekistan with emphasis on Karakalpakstan, Khorezm, Tashkent region, Fergana, Namangan and Andijan.

Although Uzbekistan has been investing for years in intensifying the production of animal products, fruits and vegetables, yields are increasing only slowly, prices remain high and exports are rising slowly. Imports of food and beverages continue to exceed exports in this sector. For the purpose of production intensification with accompanying price reduction for the domestic market and improved export promotion, the funds from the increase in the amount of 4 million euros are to be used at Uzbek request for strengthening the state animal husbandry and plant quarantine services. To this end, the competent institutions, the Committee for Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and the Agency for Plant Quarantine and Protection will receive targeted support.

Qualifications: 
  • University degree (diploma/master's degree) in agriculture, soil science, plant protection or sector-relevant course of study;
  • Language proficiency in English or German C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages;
  • 15 years of professional experience in the sector of agriculture, soil science or plant protection;
  • 10 years of professional experience in plant quarantine and protection and implementation of international plant protection standards;
  • 3 years of work experience in Eastern Europe and on the Asian continent;
  • 5 years of experience in DC projects;
