In Paraguay's livestock sector, there are areas that are being strengthened, such as dairy products and others such as poultry, pork, sheep, goats, beekeeping and fish, which need public policies that allow them to take better advantage of market opportunities. In addition, there is an increasing trend of small and medium producers who are inclined to small livestock production as a way of diversification. The government aspires to promote this diversification of livestock production and, at the same time, sustainable production practices, placing emphasis on organized small and medium producers in the non-traditional value chains of the livestock sector.
The general objective of the "Project for the Promotion of Diversified and Sustainable Livestock Production" of which this TA contract forms part, is to reduce rural poverty through economic diversification and the improvement of the competitiveness of non-traditional livestock production and its capacity for integration into international markets, through the establishment of bases, promotion and development of sustainable production.
The specific objective of this contract is to provide Technical Assistance (TA) services for the strengthening of the normative, institutional and sanitary framework of sustainable livestock production and its diversification.
Expected results of the TA contract:
- Institutional capital strengthened in the Vice Ministry of Livestock (VMG), supporting institutional development, strategic planning and design of national sectorial policies, legislation and services, with emphasis on sustainable production and climate change, favourable for private sector development and environmental protection.
- The capacities of the National Animal Health and Quality Service (SENACSA) have been strengthened and the scope of quality, animal health and welfare services has been extended to other livestock sectors, including traceability.
