Local and Provincial Economic Development (LPED)

The main objective of the services to be implemented by the contractor is to ensure the project presence and project management in the Humla-Cluster in Nepal. Tasks include the set up a project office in Simikot and the management of relations with partner municipality officials, municipality level stakeholders and other project partners such as the regional knowledge organization ICIMOD, NGOs, universities, research organizations and organizations providing agricultural extension services intervening in the implementation of the project in the cluster. Whenever needed, GIZ staff based in the province capital is supported in the coordination with the partner province.

Further tasks focus on strengthening partner municipalities and provinces in their capacity to improve economic development around climate smart agriculture and for natural resources and landscapes management related climate sensitive measures. In this context, support will be provided to dialogue formats, exchange platforms, strategic planning and the drafting of technical, budgeted investment projects for municipalities with short term-expertise and upon the request of the project. Tools of the Local and Regional Economic Development (LRED) approach will be used to support partners in identifying priorities, comparative advantages and strategic actions on local and provincial level, and organizes trainings for municipal planning following Nepal’s 7-step-planning-process.

Qualifications: 
  • University degree (master’s) in Economics, Business Administration, Economic Geography, Agriculture or environmental/climate studies
  • Knowledge of English (level C1 in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • 10 years of professional experience in the in the agriculture or local economic development sector
  • 5 years of professional experience in stregthening value chain development, improving framework conditions for local economic growth (5 out of 10 points), and in promoting Micro-Small-and-Medium Enterprises ((M)SME) (5 out of 10 points)
  • 5 years of management/leadership experience as project team leader or manager in a company
  • 10 years of training experience or work experience in Asia (region) (6 out of 10 points), of which 2 years in Nepal (country) (4 out of 10 points)
  • 10 years of experience working on DC projects
  • 2 years of experience in supporting financial management
Start / Duration: 

6 months over two to two and half years. The expected start date is in October 2022
