Promoting Rural Development in Northern Uganda

The overall objectives of the project are:

  • To facilitate the strengthening of the technical and local capacities of smallholder farms and their organizations to address yield gaps and adopt agroecological practices for climate smart farming and sustainable use of natural resources.
  • To improve the competitiveness of 570 agro-based MSMEs through the supply of nonfinancial and financial services and promotion of inclusive market led models for green products.

Tasks of Expert 6: Pool 1 up to 7 Experts:

  • Pool Expert 1: Scoping and dissemination of innovation and technologies for CSA, agroecological practices, post-harvest handling and micro-irrigation suitable for SHFs and associations.
  • Pool Expert 2: Support monitoring and evaluation of results related to the work packages.
  • Pool Expert 3: Support review and adaptation of training materials and learning aids.
  • Pool Expert 4: Assessment, modelling and developing sustainability strategy for local seed system (LSBs) in Northern Uganda.
  • Pool Expert 5: Conduct MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) ecosystem financial study and Develop Green Financing strategy for MSMEs (micro, small and medium enterprises).
  • Pool Expert 6: Conduct MSME carbon emissions assessments and design CO2 reporting framework.
  • Pool Expert 7: Conduct a market study to identify key entry points into viable green products to be promoted in Northern Uganda, develop a strategy to facilitate green investments and promotion of young people and women-led green micro-enterprises. In addition, develop a digital solution strategy for promotion of Inclusive green products.
Qualifications: 

Education:

  • Pool Expert 1, 3 and 4: University master’s degree agricultural economics, agroecology, natural resources management or related
  • Pool Expert 2: University master’s degree agricultural economics, agroecology, natural resources management or related. Additional post graduate training in Monitoring and evaluation
  • Pool Expert 5: University master’s degree sustainable finance, development economics
  • Pool Expert 6: University master’s degree environmental science, Agroecology, climate change and risk management or related
  • Pool Expert 7: University master’s degree in agricultural sciences, Agribusiness or related

General Professional Experience: 

  • Pool Experts 1 and 3 with 5 years of professional experience in agribusiness and market development, agriculture investment and decent job creation for women and young people, including material development for behavior change. Also, in 5 years’ experience on driving innovation and technology adoption for SHFs and farmer organizations
  • Pool Expert 2 with 5 years of experience in result-based monitoring, evaluation, and reporting
  • Pool Expert 4 expert with experience in modelling a local seed system (local seed businesses and sustainability strategy development

International professional experience outside the country/region of assignment: Pool Expert 1, 5 & 6 with 3 years of professional experience in one country outside East Africa.

Professional experience in the country/ region of assignment: 7 Experts with at least 1 year of professional experience in East Africa.

Language: 7 experts with knowledge of C1-level in the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages
