Promoting Rural Development in Northern Uganda

The overall objectives of the project are:

  • To facilitate the strengthening of the technical and local capacities of smallholder farms and their organizations to address yield gaps and adopt agroecological practices for climate smart farming and sustainable use of natural resources.
  • To improve the competitiveness of 570 agro-based MSMEs through the supply of nonfinancial and financial services and promotion of inclusive market led models for green products.

Tasks of the expert

  • Support the team leader in design and implementation of all key outputs of this tender related to inclusive innovative business models for women and young people.
  • Support ‘mapping’ of the local innovation ecosystem; identify key potential partners and facilitate connections to promote innovative and collaborative approaches to promotion of resource saving technologies and green products.
  • Identify and support local green products and provide technical advice and co-create solution(s), including ideation with the ‘right’ partners at the table, conducting startup acceleration of viable green product market solutions.
  • Conceptual and technical support for training or advisory services for informal and formal producer organisations to modernise and valorise agricultural production (e.g., resourcesaving mechanisation, use of organic waste, reduction of post-harvest losses, food safety management.

  • Support ‘mapping’ of the local innovation ecosystem; identify key potential partners and facilitate connections to promote innovative and collaborative approaches to promotion of resource saving technologies and green products.
  • Identify and support local green products and provide technical advice and co-create solution(s), including ideation with the ‘right’ partners at the table, conducting startup acceleration of viable green product market solutions.
  • Conceptual and technical support for training or advisory services for informal and formal producer organisations to modernise and valorise agricultural production (e.g., resourcesaving mechanisation, use of organic waste, reduction of post-harvest losses, food safety management.
  • Taking cross-cutting themes into consideration (for example, gender equality, environmental safeguards).
  • Ensuring quality implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities in accordance with deadlines.
  • Liaise with other activities and partners to accelerate innovations in climate change, shea conservation, agrotourism, charcoal farming.
  • Promote green employment among women, men, and young people.
Qualifications: 
  • University advanced degree in Business administration, Agriculture economics, Entrepreneurship, Environment management sciences or related field
  • 5 years of professional experience in business development.
  • 3 years working with women and young people in agriculture or nature-based enterprises.
  • 5 years of professional work experience green business-led innovations in agriculture. Plus 3 years of professional experience in Northern Uganda.
