Despite significant improvements in recent years the Uganda financial sector’s services are still limited to urban and peri-urban areas, while rural areas and the agricultural sector remain largely neglected by the formal financial system. As around 85% of the population lives in rural areas in Uganda improved access to adequate financial services will significantly contribute to the social and economic development of the country.

Kenya rural development programme

Opportunities and Challenges for Microinsurance Development in Nigeria

The objective of this project is to conduct a microinsurance country diagnostic study in Nigeria using the methodology developed by the Access to Insurance Initiative (see Toolkit No. 1 below) and covering a market as well as regulatory analysis. The diagnostic approach is aimed at assisting the development of local stakeholder strategies to develop the microinsurance market.
