Ethiopia_Support EU-Coffee Action for Ethiopia (EU-CAfE)

This activity is designed to support smallholder coffee producers, processors, traders and their organisations to improve: productivity; quality with focus on specialty and traceable coffees; value chain development; and trade transparency through public-private-partnership dialogues to increase income shares of stakeholders and to enable Ethiopia to gain more from coffee trade. Also meant to pilot the registration of some Ethiopian coffees through Geographic Indications (GIs); install and operationalise information technology systems; and establish interactive extension management and market information systems.

Project's expected outputs are:

  1. improved extension services delivery for increased productivity, quality and processing;
  2. improved farmers' access to high quality inputs and technologies;
  3. increased availability of processing and grading capabilities for high quality coffees and increased flow ofmarket information;
  4. integration of innovative solutions and technologies from research for higher yield and high quality;
  5. establish and capacitate functional strategic public-private stakeholders' coordination and dialogue platforms;and
  6. strengthening the federal and regional coffee authorities' planning and management capacities for proper project implementation and compliance to requirements of EU financed grant contracts (operational and financial).



For this upcoming projet we are looking for experts with experience in the following management and technical areas:

  • Coffee production: Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs) and technologies
  • Coffee Quality Assessment and Cupping
  • Public-Private Partnerships to promote coffee industry
  • Access to Input suppliers
  • Market assessment and linkages to specialty and conventional coffee buyers
  • Agri-business development
  • Capacity building of producer organizations
  • Extension services specific to coffee crops
  • GIS Mapping and Geographic Indicators


While each position will have its own operational and technical scope under the project, overall qualifications will meet the below:

  • Degree in agriculture, economics, public policy, law, international development, or related field
  • Substantial experience in related technical area
  • Experience with EU funded projects preferred
  • Proven ability to facilitate high-value partnerships with communities, private and public-sector stakeholders
  • Experience in Ethiopia required
  • Fluency in English required
  • Ethiopian nationals are highly encouraged to apply
Start / Duration: 

The provisional commencement date of the contract is July 2019 and the initial period of implementation of tasks is 42 months
