AFC Consultants International in cooperation with DLG International was awarded the service contract for the development of the Sino-German Crop Production and Agrotechnology Park, a Private Public Partnership Project, financed under the Economic Cooperation Programme of the German Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL).

The project is located in the Chinese Province of Jiangsu where the local project partner, the Hunaghai State Farm, owned by SKIAD (Jiangsu Provincial Agricultural Reclamation and Development Corporation) will provide an area of 150 hectares for the implementation of demonstrations.

On the political side, the project was planned and will be jointly steered by the German Ministry of Agriculture and Food and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) of the People’s Republic of China.

German Business Partners will provide machinery, seed and other inputs for demonstration purposes (Amazone, BASF, Bayer Crop Science, Claas, Deutz-Fahr, Grimme, Horsch, Lemken, Pöttinger, Rauch, Syngenta). Other German and Chinese private and public partners are expected to join the project in the course of implementation.

e main activities of the project will be:

  1. demonstrations in the field showing how potentials of plant production can be developed with modern production and management methods, how crop rotations can be adapted and soil fertility can be improved
  2. training programmes for the transfer of knowledge like farm organisation and management or practical skills for an appropriate and efficient application of state-of-the-art technologies and practices of plant production
  3. training of trainers and multipliers, networking with colleges, universities and scientific institutions of the region
  4. study trips to Germany to facilitate the active exchange between German and Chinese experts

Results and findings will be made available to the general public through field days, press conferences and articles in relevant newspapers and magazines.

Project activities have started with a first study trip of Huanghai and SKIAD representatives to Germany in September 2015. The two German long-term experts took up their work on the farm in mid-September, and the team, which was completed with two Chinese long-term experts, has started to develop the first plans for demonstrations and trainings.

The project opening event on the Huanghai Farm with high level participation from German and Chinese side took place during the Chinese-German Agricultural Week from 16th to 20th of November and was organised by the Sino-German Agricultural Centre in Beijing. It was followed by the first project Steering Committee Meeting.
