AFC has been working in Northern Benin since 2007, managing an Agricultural Investment Fund for the German Development Bank KfW. We are pleased to announce that we have recently been awarded a contract for the implementation of the third phase of this project, covering the period from 2015 to 2019. This is testimony to both the Beninese Ministry of Agriculture and KfW’s satisfaction with our services during the previous phases.

The project will focus on 3 key areas in order to boost agricultural productivity and promote food security in the Atacora and Donga departments:

  • Promotion of land tenure security through the establishment of a rural cadastre: this will involve testing new hi-tech techniques (drones and tablets etc.) which have the potential to reduce costs and speed up the process;

  • Improved productivity of low lying flood plains: rehabilitation of flood plains, training of farmer organisations (with a particular focus women) and integration into competitive value chains, construction of storage units;

  • Improved rural road network: rehabilitation and construction of roads which are key bottle necks within the communes, in order to improve access to markets and social infrastructure.
